New Features: Wipster Adds Closed Captions

Wipster launched closed captions adding to the recent new features added to the platform.

In 2021, addressing accessibility when creating content is more important than ever. Consumers of video content expect closed captions to be available in their language of choice — and brands themselves understand the importance of inclusivity more than ever. At Wipster we couldn’t be happier about these trends, and how they’re changing the way content is created, shared and reviewed.

We’re excited to announce that the Wipster platform now offers full support for closed captions in multiple languages and file formats. Starting today, customers on Team and Enterprise plans can easily drag-and-drop caption files (.srt and .vtt) to any video file in Wipster.

Wipster adds closed captions to review and approval platform

Now Wipster customers can review all their video content with captions and subtitles in multiple languages, available for both team members & reviewers to view, download and provide feedback. With this new feature, say goodbye to burning in captions in your editing tool, or leaving subtitles as an afterthought- now they’re naturally embedded in your review and approval workflow. Learn more about the new capability in the Wipster Help Center.

We heard from our customers over the last year about the increased demand of delivering communications through video rather than in-person. This posed a huge challenge as there was an increased need for internal key accessibility product features in the review and approval process as well as to accompany the final product - whether it’s viewed internally, streamed to the public online, or broadcast on television.

Still wondering if providing closed captions across video content is important?

According to 3PlayMedia, over 5% (360 million people) of the world’s population has disabling hearing loss. Additionally:

  • 60% of those who have hearing loss are either in the workforce or in an educational setting

  • 71% of people with disabilities will leave a website immediately if it is not accessible

  • 20% of disabled people will cancel a streaming service because of accessibility issues citing no captions as being a main factor for cancellation. For other customers, captions were a requirement to help catch and keep their audience’s attention as well as improve comprehension of more complex video content. Additionally, videos with captions tend to have longer viewing times and increased comprehension of the content shown. Especially for those viewing content in very noisy or very quiet settings. And with social platforms showing video on silent by default, having captions is key to making sure valuable content is not overlooked.

We’re excited for this new feature to get into your hands and hear how it’s impacting your workflow.
